Adaptive equipment is often used by occupational therapists in effort to help patents develop or recovery control over their hand movement.

Certain tools can be extremely helpful during this process, including adapted plates, adaptive utensils, and universal cuffs. This help the patient focus on the developing movement in their arms instead of focusing on the manipulation of their fingers.
